As you shift gears from Christmas to New Years one thing is clear…shopping isn’t over yet! Between returns, sales and more parties there are so many opportunities to browse and buy. But amid the whirlwind of the post-Christmas sales, we can often fall prey to fads that fall to the back of our closets and never see the light of day let alone the ball drop. Here are some trends (not fads) we are looking forward to trying on for size, and New Years Eve seems like just the opportunity we were looking for.
Sequins – whether as a dress, skirt, jacket or a subtle accessory like a headband, sequins (as long as they are well made and not glued-on so you leave a trail behind you) add sparkle and shine and say PARTY! Be careful about quality and accessorizing, so if you have a fully sequined dress, don’t wear a lot of jewelry–some studs (TIP: white topaz look great and are real stones) and a solitaire pendant could be perfection. Likewise a sequined jacket can make an otherwise stoic black pant/shirt combo look festive.

Fur – We are talking about the faux kind because it’s kinder (on the budget for one thing). Also, we’re thinking subtle hints like peeking out from your boot, a chic vest or neck wrap are a good way to on-board a fur-first-timer.

Cross-body bag – If you’re going to be at a party, you need to have your purse with you and have your hands free. This means your purse needs to be super-cute, match your outfit, have enough room for your necessities and work beyond NYE (this isn’t about buying a one-trick pony).
